Meet our absolutely adorable Squirrel with Acorn. He’s cute, cuddly, very lovable and just waiting to hide his acorn in your house. This pattern supplies directions for making our Squirrel with Acorn stuffie.

This Squirrel with Acorn is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches, short rows and standard knitting terms. Our Squirrel with Acorn is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 75 m of medium weight grey (G) coloured yarn and 17 m of medium weight white (W) coloured yarn for the squirrel. You will need approximately 2.5 m of medium weight light brown (LB) yarn and 2.5 m medium weight dark brown (DB) yarn for the acorn. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, stuffing (we use polyfil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your squirrel with acorn together. This will let you create a squirrel with acorn that’s approximately 14 cm (5.5 inches) high and 12 cm (4.75 inches) deep.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
