When I saw my leftover self striping sock yarn hanging around in a messy pile next to my daughter’s poppit toy, inspiration struck and I needed to know if I could create something similar. This yarn worked well at recreating the striped effect of the popular toys, but I can’t see why any yarn wouldn’t work just as well, provided it is robust enough to stand up to rough handling without tearing or pilling. I’ve named it the Squish-It as that is a more apt description of how it is used; there are alternating rows of bobbles on each side which can be fidgeted and squished through back and forth. My daughter barely waited for me to weave in the ends before she got stuck in playing with it. Once you get the hang of the stitch, you can make it as large or as small as you like, or incorporate it into larger projects such as scarves or blankets.
