St. Clair
The nature of self striping yarn makes it a challenging choice for shawl knitting because the yarn’s stripes will always cover the same number of stitches. This results in large color blocks when worked over only a few stitches, and increasingly narrow, obscured stripes as your stitch count rises. The construction of St. Clair was conceived to work with that transition to shape the shawl. Because every variety of striping yarn is different, this pattern is more of a formula than a set of row by row instructions. For best results, I recommend Roman Hills self striping yarn but other two color striping yarns will work also.
Just make sure your yarn produces true stripes and not spirals.
