This design is your cat’s deepest, secret desire. They may pretend they don’t like it because they’re trying to play it cool, but the secretly crave holiday hats because cats are nothing if not festive. The work is begun at the brim in turned rows. After the earholes are added, the work joins in the round for the crown. The ties are added with an edging at the end. You’ll be done before you know it! The details are added with scrap yarns in various weights. Experiment and have fun with what you have on hand! Just make sure the hook is sufficiently sized to make the yarn work up nicely. Stitch everything down and you’re all set!

Sizes: XXS (XS, S, M) (L, XL, XXL) to fit a head circumference of 7.5” (8.5”, 10”, 12”) (14”, 16”, 18”)/19 (21.5, 25.5, 30.5) (35.5, 40.5, 45.5) cm; see diagram below for where to measure.
An average adult cat is size XS. I’ve included extended sizes because doggos deserve dorky hats too!

Yarn: 50 – 100 yards/45 – 90 meters of bulky weight yarn for body; scrap amounts of contrast yarn in various sizes for details.

Hook: Size US J/10 – 6 mm hook for body (or size needed to obtain gauge) and whatever size is needed to obtain a nice fabric for scrap yarns.

Gauge: 14 - 15 stitches and 5 – 6 rows = 4”/10 cm square in half-double crochet.

Notions: 4 stitch markers, tapestry needle, t-pins (for detail placement), and fiber fill (for rainbow and beer).

Techniques: American crochet terminology, crocheting flat and in the round, and the magic loop (for clovers, optional).
