Staggered Eyelet Cowl
This is my first attempt at posting a pattern on Ravelry.
I wanted a simple cowl pattern to show the colour of my own hand dyed ombre yarn so I came up with this uncomplicated cowl / neckwarmer idea.
The yarn that I dyed seems to be a Sport weight (or perhaps DK - the weight wasn’t labeled) however I think that the staggered eyelet design will lend itself to almost any light weight yarn. I think that with a chunky or bulky yarn the eyelets would not be as nicely defined, but I could be wrong!
This isn’t a finely tailored item so I have included yarn suggestions that are both Sport and DK weight.
I think that variegated, gradient or tonal yarn would look lovely too.
Aside from the moss stitch borders there is no purling involved in the body of the cowl! The staggered eyelet stitch pattern is a simple 4 stitch x 8 row repeat using only Knit (K), Knit 2 Together (K2Tog, and Yarn Over (YO) stitches.
If you want to maximize a lovely yarn that you’ve chosen you can avoid playing yarn chicken by weighing your yarn ball after you have completed the initial moss stitch border (before you start on the body of the cowl). Calculate how much yarn weight was actually used up so far, then be sure to leave at least that much yarn weight to do the moss stitch border and BO on the other end.
I have only knit this pattern myself thus far, so if you find an error, or if you are confused please let me know. I want to ensure that this is easy to understand.
I hope you enjoy it.
