Stained Glass Window Bible Tote
This heavy felted tote is specifically designed for carrying a heavy Bible and a few extra items like a notepad and pen.
The stained glass window surrounded Cross motif (worked with Intarsia knitting) is on one side of the tote, and the solid background color carries through to the opposite site. The tote is easily completed in two flat pieces (SIDES, BOTTOM) which are stitched together prior to felting – don’t worry, your seams will vanish during the felting process when you use Lamb’s Pride yarn - mine did!
The fold-down top (either flared or nearly straight, two options provided) creates extra strength at the top for stitching purchased carrying handles inside the top edge that will support a heavyweight Bible.
Note: ideally, all yarns should be the same brand but if you’re “stashing”, this may not be the case. However, weights should be similar and all yarns should be feltable, not washable. I did use a variety of all wool worsted weights yarns to create my bag and can see some differences, but nothing major. (The Cross and its outline should be the same brand but the stained glass pieces could vary.)
A chart is included for the stained glass window/Cross design AND a special “Bobbin” chart is included with suggested yarn amounts given for each colored portion of the window!
Because this is a felted project with a variety of light and dark colored yarns, I highly recommend using “Color Catcher” sheets to absorb dyes in your washing machine as you felt the project.
Estimated yarn amounts:
- Main color (shown Blue Boy or Aztec Turquoise) = 300 yds
- Medium blue = 8-10 yds
- Light blue = 12-14 yds
- Magenta = 18-20 yds
- White = 7 yds
- Black = 5 yds
