Staithes Guernsey #C796
The Guernsey features are so appropriate for kids – the easy-fitting smock shape, underarm gussets, and comfortable drop-shoulders all lend great freedom of movement! The original Staithes Guernsey is on permanent display in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, U.K.
Staithes is worked on #6 circular needles – the body in Plain Knit and the Yokes and upper sleeves in Double Seed Stitch panels separated with bands of ‘purl’ ridges, and the bottom cuff in Garter Stitch. This makes it easy fare for the intermediate knitter. And the other Guernsey feature always worth mentioning is that when your knitting is done, your sweater is done – not a single seam. And I need to reinforce my feeling about the yarn to use – keep it to smooth, even spins of wool or wool blends.
