Standing Rat

This pattern is for a rat, written using US crochet terms. It is a fairly simple pattern with no complicated stitches and should be suitable for beginners in amigurumi. You can use any yarn type you like as long as you use an appropriate hook so the stuffing doesn’t show through. The samples were made using Stylecraft Special DK yarn and a 3.25mm hook and measure 14cm tall. If you would like the rat to stand then you will need wire to strengthen the ankle joint though if making for a child it is best not to use wire for toy safety reasons. The samples also use 7.5mm safety eyes though these can be embroidered instead. Embroidery thread, invisible thread or fishing line can also be used to make whiskers.
