Staple Scrunchie
The Staple Scrunchie is a knitted scrunchie that can work with any weight yarn and any gauge! The perfect scrap busting project, make an endless variety of scrunchies to add some extra flair to your every day knit fits.
This pattern is suitable for confident beginners.
Size + Fit:
This pattern is designed to create scrunchies that are 18” in circumference before incorporating the elastic. It gives you guidance on making three sizes: Small, Regular, and Mega.
You can adjust the elastic as needed for your preferred fit and hair needs, but this pattern gives guidance on incorporating elastic that should hug your wrist snugly.
Gauge:
You can use any gauge! You can find your gauge before starting the pattern (4 in. x 4 in. / 10 cm x 10 cm) with stockinette in the round. You are also free to approximate your gauge.
Yarn:
You can use any weight and any size yarn for this pattern! The amount of yarn you need will depend on what size scrunchie you make, as well as the weight of the yarn you’re using and what gauge you are working with.
Needles:
You will need 2 sets of 16” (40 cm) circular needles.
The size of the first set of needles will depend on what yarn you’re using. I recommend using a needle size that creates a nice fabric with the yarn you’ve chosen to work with.
The size of the second set of needles will be ideally one size smaller than the first set, but you can size down more if you don’t have one size smaller on hand. (This second set will only be used when seaming the scrunchie at the end.)
You can also use 2 sets of 36”+ circular needles to use with magic loop. However, guidance is not provided for how to do this.
Materials:
1 stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Measuring tape
9” (23 cm) of elastic (recommended width: .25” (.6 cm))
Crochet hook of similar needle size to first, larger set of needles
Techniques:
Each technique used comes with written step-by-step instructions, photos, and video resources.
- Stockinette in the round
- Provisional cast on
- Kitchener stitch
Pattern Format:
The Staple Sweater is an interactive, made-to-measure pattern that calculates the number of stitches, rows, and yardage for a pattern. The benefit of this type of pattern is that it makes your pattern size inclusive to virtually any body size (theoretically, it should even work for an infant!) and it allows you to use any yarn and any gauge! This is done by allowing the user to type in their body’s measurements and gauge onto the pattern. Then, in the background, the pattern will calculate all the math within the pattern to fit the person perfectly.
It is recommended that the pattern is accessed through Adobe Reader.
