When knit of #10 crochet cotton on size 0 needles, the Diamond 47 series creates a miniature symbol, suitable for use as an ornament. Finished size is 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” (9 cm x 9 cm) measured as a square; 5” x 5” (12.5 cm x 12.5 cm) tip to tip, measured as a diamond. Stay posted for other gauge options!

Design is presented both in chart and written instruction format.

The Star and Crescent is an ancient symbol that was embraced by the Ottoman Empire and thereby became associated with the religion of Islam. A monotheistic faith, Islam is one of the world’s largest religions. Its name derives from an Arabic word meaning peace. Islam’s holy book is the Qu’ran and its followers are known as Muslims. They regard Muhammed as the last in a long line of prophets of Allah (God). Many Muslim countries feature these celestial symbols on their national flag. The crescent moon signifies change and growth, while the five-pointed star represents eternal light.

The knitting itself is not complicated, but it is important to count and follow chart (or written instructions) accurately. The knitting is basic; the chart following is basic (for a given row, all stitches are on one chart); and the chart management is basic (entire design is on one chart).

Charts and written instructions were created using Stitchmastery software.
