Star Anise Chapeau
As lovely and rare as the seven-point formation for which the hat is named (the star-shaped pericarp of Illicium velum), the Star Anise chapeau is an exquisite slouchy hat – cool and composed, yet sizzling with spice and attitude!
A simple two-row lace repeat, knit on the bias, creates the dynamic and intoxicating swirl stitch pattern of the hat. Using one skein each of our delicious Sparky and Lust yarns, and alternating the yarns every two rows, an intuitive and very sexy light lace fabric is made.
A generous 9” of fabric is knit before decreasing begins for the crown, thus making this hat perfect for myriad needs ~ a funky lid for folks with dreads, or an excellent choice for those individuals who might be healing (in other words, it’s lovely for those with sensitive needs,
as the hat is roomy, light, and made of mostly silk).
The Star Anise satisfies pretty much every other hat need inbetween, as it can be worn titled as a sassy beret, or pulled down over the head for extra warmth… a versatile chapeau, to say the least!
Note: there is adequate yardage to make two hats, and one little word to the wise – you’ll probably want to make this super-fun & addictive chapeau more than once!
