STAR ANISE is a cowl worked in DK weight yarn. The cowl works up quickly–once you get into the rhythm of making those little stars, you’ll wind up with a finished garment quicker than you think! The generous and squishy half-brioche ribbing is a great introduction to full-on brioche knitting. Pick a burnt umber-ey, deep rust colorway to echo the bold warmth of star anise, or choose a different color altogether to make it your own. This is the perfect last-minute knit for gifting (or keeping!).

SUGGESTED YARN
The Star Anise sample knit uses Serendipitous Wool’s Agni (DK) yarn in the colorway Star Anise–same name as the pattern! It is (100% SW Merino Wool), 231 yards (211 meters) at 100 g/skein.
Cowl uses 350-400 yards (320-365 meters (including yardage for optional pompoms).

Any similar weight yarn will work beautifully. Worsted weight yarn would work as well–just know that substituting weights will result in a cowl with different dimensions than those stated below and
may need different yardage and a needle size than this pattern calls for. Swatch and block before you begin this pattern.

DIMENSIONS
Cowl measures 15 in. (45 cm.) when measured flat along the long edge, and 10 in. (25 cm.) deep.
(Total circumference 30 in. (75 cm.))

SUGGESTED GAUGE
24 sts over 24 rows = 4 in. x4 in. (10 cm. x 10 cm.) in the round in star stitch pattern.
