The motif design for this is inspired by the Guiding Star symbol which is known in many cultures - leading us and lighting the way to our goal in life.

In the northern hemisphere the pre-eminent bright star used in celestial navigation is the Pole Star or Polaris (Alpha Ursae Minoris), indicating the approximate direction of north.

Many traditional fairisle knitting motifs feature a star – a favourite with knitters as it lends itself so well to the stranded colour work technique.
