Star of the Sea
From http://www.whats-your-sign.com/love-symbol-animal.html “Starfish: In Christian symbolism the Starfish represents the Virgin Mary (Stella Maris which means Star of the Sea) who lovingly creates safe travel over troubled waters and is also seen as an emblem of salvation during trying times. The star as well as the Starfish are seen as celestial symbols and as such, they represent infinite divine love. In addition to love, the Starfish also holds characteristics such as guidance, vigilance, inspiration, brilliance and intuition.”
Star of the sea, a knitted motif, is approximately 8”. Also pictured is a 5.5” multicolored version worked in fingering or sock weight yarn on size 1 needles. The yarn used is from past Phat Fiber Sampler Boxes. Worked in garter stitch with applied I cord, the main color portion is worked in one piece and then joined with a contrasting color.
A versatile motif, it can be a scrubbie, dishcloth, joined together with other motifs to make an afghan, strung on cord for a banner, or hung individually as Christmas tree ornaments.
Make a bunch for wedding or party favors.
