Starchild Any-Yarn Shawl
Starchild is a warm triangle shawl that can be made with any yarn or needles that you wish! Made in fingering or other light weight yarn, it makes a lovely scarf or shawlette.
Starchild features repeated, off-set Estonian star clusters and a raised rib spine. It finishes off with a lacy Estonian starflower edging that is an echo of the star clusters themselves.
Constructed from the mid-point of the top downwards, it grows
outward and can be made to any size you wish. Each repeat adds one more star cluster.
If you are adding beads to the center of each star, here’s a formula to determine how many beads you’ll need.
You will need to know how many stars wide you want at each side edge of your shawl – in other words, how many stars you will work on your final row before the border. You can figure out how many stars you want by using your gauge per star.
This number will be S in the formula.
My grey shawl has 12 stars at each side edge, so my formula has S = 12
Here’s the formula: S(S+1) = number of stars total
For mine, 12(13) = number of stars, and 12 x 13 = 156 -- That means that I have 156 stars, and will need 156 beads if I want one in the center of each star.
