Inspired by the heather and thistle of Scotland, this pullover combines the lovely colours of Brown Sheep’s handpaint Originals with the sensible drape of their Cotton Fleece to create an elegant pullover with a lovely hand and subtle halo. Clever use of graduated needle size allows for subtle shaping and a more sophisticated fit, yet keeps the knitting simple. Easily adapted to other handpaints of similar weight now on the market.
The original directions called for this sweater to be knit in the round up to the armholes, then continued back and forth in rows. Pattern notes call for continuing with two skeins of MC and a circular needle, sliding stitches back to LH side of needle, thus working more than one row in the same direction. This technique is not hard, but those knitters comfortable with using steeks could certainly use them here.
Sleeves are knit circularly from the cuffs, then sewn into armholes.
A woman’s 38” takes only 5 skeins of Cotton Fleece and 4 skeins of Handpaint, making this a fairly economical knit.
