If, like me, you are fascinated with the night sky and celestial events and, like me, you are a fan of fingerless gloves/mitts, then you might like the “Starfall Mitts”, originally published as a Mystery KAL in January 2023(Chat).

The design has been test knit by the wonderful Mitt.

About the pattern

Starfall Mitts is a stranded colorwork design with a few stitches that travel across the mitten, similar to shooting stars traveling across the night sky.
.
The mitts are knit in only two colors: background color and contrast color.

The construction of the mitts: first, the body of the mitten is knit up to the thumb opening; next, the thumb is finished; lastly, the body of the mitten is completed.

If you find the blue/yellow charts difficult to follow, there is also a gray-scale version pdf available.

You will need:
• US Size 0 (2mm) set of dpns or circular needles (for Magic Loop method); US size 00 (1.75mm) for ribbing (optional)
• Light fingering weight yarn - 231y/50 g (211m/50g): You will need about 244 y/52 g total: Background color – 122 y/26 g, Contrast color – 122 y/26 g

Note: with recommended yarn, needles, and gauge the mitts should fit an 8” circumference hand. For larger size mittens use larger needles and heavier yarns.
