Happy Gift Knitting!
A take on the traditional star motif, the Starflake Beanie features a gathered crown topped off with one last little starflake on the very top.
Starflake Beanie begins at the brim with 2-color ribbing then moves to a stockinette body with periodic garter ridges which are charted alongside the colorwork. This hat features stranded knitting using only two colors per row and fits that middle ground between a beanie and a slightly slouchy hat.
Gauge per 4in/10cm in stranded stockinette, blocked:
Small - 22sts x 25rows
Medium - 20sts x 23.5rows
Large - 19sts x 22rows
Finished dimensions and fit 0-3”/0-7cm negative ease:
Small - 17.5 x 8.5” (45 x 21.5cm) fits 17.5-21”/45-53cm
Medium - 19 x 9” (48 x 23.5cm) fits 19-22”/48-57cm
Large - 20 x 9.5” (51 x 24cm) fits 20-23”/51-58cm
Techniques:
Knitting in the round, stranded knitting 2 colors per round, corrugated rib (option to work standard ribbing), working from a chart
Skill level:
Adventurous beginner to intermediate
Yardage/weight estimates based on medium size:
MC (navy in sample) - 80yds/39g
CC1 (ribbing - purple) - 10yds/5g
CC2 (peerie - red) - 8yds/4g
CC3 (peerie/crown - blue) - 15yds/7g
CC4 (starflake - white) - 50yds/23g
Notes:
- Crown decreases are written and charted.
- Blocking the finished hat will smooth out the gathered crown decreases.
- It is very important to meet gauge or be able to calculate adjustments which can be made at the crown.
- Pattern advises slip stitches for lining up garter ridges
