Test Knitter Testimonials
From CoffeemugPrincess:
“This pattern was very well thought of. I mainly followed the charts but reading the written instructions was a breezy experience, too.”
From lissande:
“This pattern was a very enjoyable knit. After once through a section, you really don’t need the pattern to follow the stitches and the body has just enough interest to make it perfect for social knitting without resorting to a stockinette project. It is great too that all the stitch count information is included so that one could easily resize this shawl to be a smaller shawlette or a larger wrap to keep on the couch. It is also wonderful to see a pattern written to highlight the variegated yarn that we all see and love, but then turns muddy or obscures the pattern work when we try to use it in a pattern that isn’t very basic. I love how the slipped stitches and the cables on the border add little bursts of color pops in the colorway I chose. The shape for this shawl is AMAZING. I wore it on a museum field trip and never needed the pin in my purse. The shawl stayed put around my shoulders all day and got many compliments. I already have requests from non-knitting friends to please make one of these for them to cozy up in!”
Inspiration
Perched on a mountain nestled deep in the Colorado Rocky Mountains lies the quietest of stargazing locations. Far from the glow of the city, it’s a peaceful place to view the star’s ancient stories, sent as twinkles and gleams of old light from their faraway home. It’s a chance to reconnect with the past, appreciate the present moment, and let the imagination run free with hopes for the future.
Wrap up in your own easy-to-wear, crescent-shaped Stargaze shawl. Capture starlight in rays of mock cable eyelets and watch the swirling colors unfold in the body of the shawl. Explore the universe while knitting interconnected galaxies out of lace and cables in an applied border. Round out the expedition with a seamless icord border, a beautiful frame to a newly-knit miniature universe.
Construction Notes : See Schematic for Reference
This shawl is cast on (1) with an icord cast on and is then worked top-down (2) with 8 increases alongside the stitch patterns every other row to fill out the body.
An icord cast on (3) is used to continue the icord and create stitches for the border, which is worked as an applied edging (4), binding off 1 stitch every 2 rows.
The shawl is finished with an icord bind off. The last 3 edge stitches are grafted together with 3 stitches from the icord bind off for a continuous icord edge (5).
