Although I enjoy both knitting and crocheting, there are certain things I love more about each craft. When it comes to crochet, I love how easy it is to learn and master beautiful, seemingly complicated stitches. And once you learn these stitches, making something as simple as a rectangular scarf takes on a whole new depth and beauty. One of my favorite crochet stitches is the star stitch, and once you learn the basics of making the star stitch, there are endless variations to how you can work it into different projects from scarves to afghans to headbands and, of course, fingerless mitts!

This is a fun pattern, especially if you’re not already familiar with the star stitch. There is a detailed photo-tutorial for the star stitch that will have you whipping up row after row of stars in no time! And if you’re a seasoned veteran, please take the time to read the pattern carefully because although this pattern does use the star stitch, there are some significant changes to the standard stitch, eliminating the need to finish off and reattach yarn (simply because I hate weaving in ends!).
