Starling Shawl! In this project, ribbing patterns suggest feathers and autumn murmurations if you use bird-colored yarn.

Starling Shawl is a triangle-shaped shawl. It uses a slightly unorthodox approach to shawl construction, with some inspiration from a garter-stitch tab beginning (only bigger! and not a tab! and familiar to you if you’ve been following my design projects for the past year+!) and traditional top-down triangle shaping.

This design employs easy ribbed stitch motifs for a fabric that’s airy, but not really lacy. It’s reversible, too—the sides are different, but the wrongside isn’t too wrong, which is nice in a wrap.

Use sock- or sportweight yarn: sock, shown (Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Playa colorway), will give you a light fabric, while a rustic sport yarn will give you a more substantial wrap.

Gauge:
Gauge is 17 sts and 37 rows over 4”/10cm in blocked garter stitch. Suggested needles are only a starting point; please be sure to check your gauge.

Materials:
-About 704-800 yards or 2 skeins of Malabrigo Yarn Sock or a similar yarn; sample shown in Malabrigo Yarn in Playa
-1 40” circular needle in US6-7/4.0-4.5mm, or size needed for gauge
