StarPainter Shawl
StarPainter is a heart shaped triangular shawl inspired by Van Gogh’s painting, “Starry Night” The gently curved wings hug your shoulders and help the shawl stay on, even without a pin. The shawl is knit from the top down, moving through stockinette stitch, with stars and eyelets, garter ridges and gracefully curving ripples, to cottage and trees lace, and finally a frame of knit on garter stitch border.
Finished Size: 60” around the neck and 23” deep with moderate blocking.
Materials:
The shawl requires two skeins, at least 265 yards of A and 345 yards of B. In the sample pictured above, I used Morning Bright Organic Merino/Nylon Sock Yarn with Starry as A and Night as B. If you want to knit all in one colour, you will need about 620 yards of fingering weight yarn. I recommend having extra yarn on hand to account for differences in gauge.
Colour A works well with variegated yarn with short colour runs, tonals, and solid colours.
Colour B works best with tonals and solid colours.
I had enough extra yarn from the 2 skeins to make a pair of fingerless mitts.
