Starry Flakes
Starry Flakes is a very simple lacy 6-point star or snowflake. The center is worked using a crochet-chain provisional cast on. Once the center is complete, stitches are picked up from the provisional cast-on to work each point of the star.
The same lace chart is used for both the center and the points.
Any yarn can be used making this a great stash-buster project! The size of the finished star/snowflake is determined by the weight of your yarn and the size of needles you use.
Fingering yarn and US size 3 needles results in a star/snowflake that is approximately 6” in diameter.
This project is not particularly difficult if you are familiar with the following techniques:
crochet provision cast on
knitting in the round
knitting flat
knit 2 together
slip,slip, knit
central-double decrease (slip 2 together, knit 1, pass slipped stitches over)
yarn over
The project can be easily completed within 2 hours of knitting time (not including blocking).
It’s also a great opportunity to try some new skills! Like knitting backwards or chaining down the edge to avoid weaving in so many ends.
