This is a skirt with colors, shapes, and textures inspired by the painting Starry, Starry Night. If skirts aren’t really your thing, you can make a cowl instead! PATTERNS FOR BOTH THE SCARF AND THE COWL ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR PURCHASE :)

This skirt is essentially just a tube with box pleats at the top to shape the waist, giving the illusion of an A-line without any increases. Every pattern repeat adds approximately 4” to the finished waist size, so it is easy to adapt to the size you require. In addition, the skirt has an elastic waistband, making it even easier to get the size you require! The skirt can be easily lengthened or shortened by adjusting the number of rows in the top blue stripe.

For the sample skirt, I used Urth Monokrom Cotton DK. I chose this yarn because of the gorgeous colorways that were perfect for this project. For the smallest size (28” waist), I used 800 yards of blue, 325 yards of yellow, and 375 yards of green. For each 4” waist size up, add 120, 50, and 55 yards respectively. You will also need enough 1” wide elastic to go around your waist.

This pattern is written assuming that you know how to knit, including fair isle in the round (tacking long floats), kitchener stitch, provisional cast on, and box pleats. Minimal instruction for these techniques is provided (there are a few images to help you get started).

Overall, this is a great project if you like changing up your stitch every so often, while not thinking about it too hard :) Enjoy!
