I was inspired to write this pattern to recreate the star-filled sky I’ve been seeing every morning when walking my kids to the bus stop. (My kids’ bus comes EARLY!) I have dyed kits to easily create the white stars with short undyed sections. That together with the way I have shaped the garment and done the increases creates the subtle ombre of stars from dense at the top to none at the bottom, with minimal pooling of the stars.

Kits are now retired due to availability of the yarn base.

You could use any DK or light worsted weight yarn to make a poncho of the same shape, in either one color or 3 easily, albeit without the stars. This pattern is written as one size fits most. The sample fits my small mannequin and also my XL frame. There is no ‘front’ side, so you can throw it on and not fuss.

Skills needed include: knit, purl, make one increase, and knitting in the round. I recommend using a stretchy cast on and cast off, but no specific one is required.

The poncho (when done with the kit) is 18” circumference at the top and 52” at the bottom, and 26” tall.
