This star stitch beanie pattern was inspired by the beautiful night skies of the Mackenzie Basin in New Zealand where I live. The area is part of an International Dark Sky Reserve and this hat design is a celebration of the dark sky and beauty of the stars.

It is written with Malabrigo Rasta in mind, but also works well with other super bulky yarns and looks absolutely stunning in hand or kettle-dyed merino.

It is a quick knit and a great introduction to a brioche stitch and multi-color work. Both mosaic / slip-stitch colorwork and Fair-Isle / stranded colorwork techniques are covered - this allows those new to colorwork to have the option of knitting each round with just a single strand.

Method
Knit in the round, bottom up.
