Add a little dazzle to your knitting and your wardrobe with this sparkling snood hat (you can get away with calling it a slouch hat, beanie, toque, or beret, too). The Starry Snood is worked in soft merino wool and sprinkled with glass beads. The combination of bead colors and yarn is practically endless!

Construction Details
Beads are strung onto the yarn before working the hat. The hat is worked from the top center of the hat towards the brim. Since the beads are gathered more densely at the top of the hat, this construction allows the knitter to work the majority of their beads right at the beginning of the project. This means there will be less wear-and-tear on the yarn as beads move along the strands.

Pattern is written in words and in chart form. Knit according to preference.

Size options: Small/Medium (Large/Extra Large)
Finished Measurements: 24”/60 cm circumference x 10.5”/26.5 cm depth (27.5”/70 cm circumference x 11.5”/29 cm depth)

Yarn: 240 (275) yards DK weight (CYCA #3) yarn.

Hats shown in Filatura di Crosa “Zara” (100% merino wool; 137 yards per 50g ball).

Gauge: 21 sts and 28 rows = 4” in circular stockinette stitch on size 6 (4 mm) needles.

Needle: US 6 (4 mm) 16”, 24” circular needles and US 6 (4 mm) long length DPN and US 5 (3.5 mm) 16” circular needle. Recommended: use a 32” US 6 (4 mm) circular needle for magic loop. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Beads: 228 (342) size 6/0 round (approx. 3.3mm circumference with a hole size of 1.7mm) glass seed beads. Dyna-Mites brand seed beads were used in samples.

Additional materials: large eye beading needle or dental floss threader, stitch marker, row counter, tapestry needle.

Additional Notes:
• The large size is perfect for recipients with lots of hair, a larger head, or those with a need to cover the head/hair. The small size is great for people with smaller to average head size and a medium amount of hair.
• Avoid using yarns that are densely spun (cottons, for example) as the beads may not fit over the yarn. Also avoid yarns that are too soft (100% or majority cashmere) or single-ply as the weight and movement of the beads may break or shred the yarn.
