I designed the Stars Align Hat and Mittens (Mittens will be published on Sunday, 9/3) Set in collaboration with Monica of UPNorth Yarns to promote The End AIDS Knitalongs (KAL) and Crochetalongs (CAL), which are a series of fundraisers created by Gary Knits Gary Rides to support AIDS and Lifecycle fundraising.
What are the goals of the End AIDS KAL/CALs?
The goals of the KAL/CALS are (in order):
To have fun!
To get indie knit and crochet designers and dyers paid
To raise a bit of money for AIDS/Lifecycle

Stars Align is made up of alternating rounds of star stitches that beautifully showcase a variegated colorway when paired with a contrasting solid, like this combination from UPNorth Yarns.
Finished hand circumference: 6.25, (7, 7.5, 8.25, 8.75)”/ 16 (17.25, 19, 20.5, 22)cm.
Needles: US 6 / 4.00mm or size to obtain gauge, and US 4 / 3.5mm, or 0.5mm smaller than gauge needle, in preferred needles for short circumferences (DPNs, magic loop, short circulars).
Notions: 4 stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Gauge: 26 and 35 rnds sts = 4”/10cm over star stitch pattern.
Yarn: DK weight:
MC: 130 (140, 150, 160, 175) yards / 120 (129, 138, 147, 161) meters; and
CC: 70 (80, 90, 100, 115) yards / 65 (74, 83, 92, 105) meters.
Sample knit in: UPNorth Yarns 4-ply DK (100% superwash Merino; 246 yards / 100g) in Morning Glories (MC) and Speckled Jewels (CC).
