A unique, boxy, oversized sweater with little sleeves and an illusion panel on the front, giving a hologram effect of a scattering of stars when viewed from the side, and stripes from the front. I think this would also be great for the 4th of July in the right colours! :)

This sweater is worked sideways on a standard gauge machine with punchcard, and requires a garter carriage for the illusion panel and the pinstriped cuffs, neckline and hem. The illusion effect is created with garter stitch and alternating the dark and light colour every 2 rows. Sleeves are picked up and worked downward.

I used a Brother KH891 and an ancient KG-88.

Size: This sweater is one size. It is very oversized - the finished circumference of the body is 176cm/69”. It is will easily fit a small - large. The sleeves are narrow - if you are a larger size, check the circumference on your own lower arm and add a few sts as instructed in the pattern if necessary.

Yarn: Bendigo Woollen Mills 3 ply Classic 100% superwash wool, 2000m per 500g cone.
Main yarn: 500g colour Charcoal
Contrast yarn: 50g colour Marigold.
Choose yarns with a good contrast for the illusion effect to be most obvious.

Gauge: 29sts x 42rows in st st, 29 x 49 in garter st over 10cm/4”

I achieved this with T7 on the main carriage and T4.1 on the G-carriage.
