When I was planning by book, Keepsake Christmas Stockings, A Coordinated Collection to Knit, one of the concepts I left out of the book was a patriotic themed stocking.

I was reminded of this when I saw the Olympic Sweaters produced with Imperial Yarn, Erin, and was inspired revisit the concept. I contacted the wonderful folks at Imperial yarn who guided me to very yarn used in the sweaters. With a little collaboration, the Stars and Stripes pattern was born.

The version pictured is knit with Imperial Erin in Navy, Red, and Natural. The colors are so rich and the yarn so buoyant that the result is a most appealing stocking. This design and the Imperial yarns will blend nicely with those in the book as the pallet is similar.

As with all my other Christmas Stockings, the top sections of the stocking is knit flat, making it easy to work the motif and form a seam that provides stability to the stocking when full of gifts. The top comes together to allow the heel, foot, and toe to be knit in the round.

Included in the download is the stocking pattern and the grids for the stocking motif and for the lettering. Also included are the instructions for the fireworks tassel which is a fun and novel version.
