From the pattern:
This style of hat is easy to knit because there is no shaping and the 3-needle bind-off is so slick. This bind-off creates the seam at the top of the hat. Make sure you remember to turn the hat inside out before starting the bind-off. The stars are texturally interesting and not as difficult as they appear. They do require sewing in ends, but the result is well worth it.
