Stash Buster Felted Baskets
ANNOUNCEMENT: I’ve recently started a newsletter where I answer customer’s questions and provide tips on felting, as well as announce new patterns and provide substantial newsletter-only discounts. Newsletter Signup
This is the pattern to get rid of the leftovers, odds and ends in your stash, while at the same time creating the perfect vessel to house your next stash! I can’t promise that your basket will turn out to be perfectly formed, but I can promise you that it will be fun, funky and one of a kind!
The pattern has two size options: large (pictured) and small, as well as two lid options- a slightly silly conical lid (pictured) and a flat circular lid.
For the project, you can use either a combination of super bulky and bulky feltable yarns (with Size 15 needles), or bulky and worsted feltable yarns (on Size 10 needles). For the Super Bulky/ Bulky baskets, use a single strand of super bulky yarn or 2 strands of bulky yarn held together. For the Bulky/ Worsted, use a single strand of bulky yarn or 2 strands of worsted weight yarn held together.
The finished size of the project will depend on which yarns you use and which size you make. These are the approximate sizes of finished baskets with the different options:
Large Basket with Super Bulky/ Bulky yarns: 11” high, 13” diameter
Small Basket with Super Bulky/ Bulky yarns: 7.5” high, 9” diameter
Large Basket with Bulky/ Worsted yarns: 7” high, 8.5” diameter
Small Basket with Bulky/ Worsted yarns: 5” high, 6” diameter
Yardage:
Super Bulky/ Bulky Option: You will need the equivalent of 625 yards of super bulky yarn for the large size, and 340 yards for the small. Note that if you are using 2 strands of bulky yarn held together, you have to double the yardage needed.
Bulky/ Worsted Option: You will need the equivalent of 400 yards of bulky yarn for the large size, and 215 yards for the small size. Note that if you are using 2 strands of worsted yarn held together, you have to double the yardage needed.
