These are ideal projects for trying at steeking. The bag has a facing which covers the edges of the steek, and the steek on the hat becomes the back seam after the brim is knitted to and fro.

These items were originally designed as practice pieces for the Hoswick Jacket, but they stand alone.

The designs are also useful for playing with your own colour schemes, and can easily be made with odds and ends of yarn remaining from other projects.

Materials

For either bag or hat:
Jamieson and Smith’s 2 ply jumper weight Shetland wool in the following colours:
1A (off-white) less than 10 g
81 (graphite) less than 10 g
21 (navy) less than 5 g
34 (dark green) les than 5 g
20 (purple) less than 5 g
9113 (burgundy) less than 5 g
3.5 mm (US 4) dpns or circ
row counter if desired
2 stitch markers

For the bag:
3 mm (US 3) dpns or circ

For the hat:
1 x 50 g ball DK eyelash yarn, such as Sirdar Funky Fur, Patons Whisper or Stylecraft Eskimo
