Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Winter 2008: “Deborah Newton comes up with a luscious twist on knitted pillows with sensuous leaf and vine motifs worked in a lofty, huggable alpaca blend. Inverted colors from front to back mean no wrong side for the Stenton Garden Pillows.”

Finished Size: 20” square.

Yarn: Tahki Bunny (50% merino, 25% alpaca, 25% acrylic; 81 yd 75 m/100 g): #051 tan and #008 burgundy, 11 balls each color for 2 pillows; 6 balls each color for 1 pillow.

Needles: Size 8 (5 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle; 20” × 20” pillow form(s).

Gauge:

  • 26 sts of vine leaf patt = 5½“ wide
  • 24 rows of vine leaf patt = 4½“ high
  • 16 sts of texture st = 4” wide
  • contrasting cable measures about 2¾“ wide.

Note: Instructions are for two pillows; if only making one, work halve as many panels. These pillows can be made to fit any larger pillow, simply by working the vertical center panel and contrasting cables to the necessary longer lenght, then picking up more stitches at sides and working the side sections to the necessary length.
