Hats are one of my favorite things to knit. They’re fast, portable and useful (especially with the winter we are enjoying this year).
This pattern is named after Stepstone Falls in the Arcadia Wildlife Management area, a favorite hiking spot of my family.

Stepstone is a hat combining some of my favorite things. A sideways band with buttons, slip stitches and woolly yarn.
The band is knit sideways first, then stitches are picked up for the body and crown. The button flap is worked last.

Yarn:
~150 yards sportweight yarn. The pattern sample is knit in Swans Island All American Sport in color Hibiscus. It is 100% USA Rambouillet and comes in a rainbow of lovely colors.

The light blue version is knit in Wing and A Prayer Farms’ Happiest Yarn. It is warm and wonderful.

Needles: US 4 or size to obtain gauge.
Notions: 2 (3/4”) buttons, stitch marker
My buttons are from Katrinkles. I love her buttons!
