Sticks & Stones Ponchette/Capelet and Cowl
This listing is actually for two separate crochet patterns (you get both!):The Sticks and Stones Ponchette /Capelet with optional flower brooch/clip, and the Sticks and Stones Cowl. The name “Sticks and Stones” refers to the appearance of the stitch pattern of alternating single treble stitches (sticks) and treble bobbles (stones). Both patterns work up well in a variety of heavy worsted (aran) or bulky weight yarns (4 & 5 weight). It is fun to experiment!
These items both work up quite quickly. The ponchette/capelet (I was not sure which term was best), takes about 375 yards of yarn, and that includes the optional flower and fringe. The cowl uses about 180 yards. A small amount of lace weight yarn or crochet thread in a coordinating color is needed for the center of the flower brooch/clip, if desired.
The patterns are both written in a single size which should fit most people. The dimensions of the ponchette/capelet are: neck edge is approximately 29 inches around; lower edge is about 58 inches around; length from neck edge to lower edge (not counting fringe) is about 14 inches; fringe adds about 4 1/2 inches (when using 10 inch strands). I’ve provided information on how to increase the length. The dimensions of the cowl are: 8 inches wide by 36 inches around. but I’ve included information for the cowl on how to increase the length, if desired.
These pieces are quite vesatile. The flower clip/brooch can be used separately and clipped in the hair or on a bag, or pinned to your coat or sweater. Depending on the fiber you choose, either piece could be worn in any season.
