“Still waters run deep.” Simple cables in multiple sizes run like water down these socks, with three in the front and one in the back. The Still Waters socks represent the flow that always runs at the bottom of lakebeds and rivers, even when the surface appears perfectly calm.

There are three cable sizes used in this pattern. It may be worth it to double-check your gauge with the cable pattern if you are a tight cabler, since it will make the leg and foot of your sock tighter than the ribbing, heel, and toe.

Sizes
There are two sizes in the pattern, small (18cm foot circumference), and large (20cm foot circumference). Note that the sizes listed are measured around the sock, so find your size by measuring your foot and then subtracting 10%.

Yarn and Yardage
Around 250-360 yards will be needed, depending on size. The leg section of the sock can be lengthened, but please note that will increase the overall yardage.
Alley Cat Yarns’ Boots 2-ply has been discontinued since I wrote this pattern, but any sock yarn with at least 15% nylon will behave similarly for this pattern- just make sure to knit a gauge swatch so you can adjust needle size if needed.

Notions
Needles (either DPN’s or circulars can be used), a cable needle, stitch markers, sock blockers, and a darning needle for the Kitchener stitch grafted toe.

This pattern is good for knitters who are familiar with basic sock construction and cabling techniques. The cable chart is both charted and written.
