This is a choose your own adventure pattern that was inspired by embroidery samplers. I wanted to play with different stitch patterns and motifs across a tonal main colour yarn background. There are 10 different stitch patterns that you can mix and match anyway that you like.

The sock comes in 3 sizes and is knit from the top down with a heel flap and traditional gusset. I finished it with my version of a rounded toe.

Written and charted instructions are included with video tutorials to support the pattern.

I recommend tonal or lightly speckled yarns to let the different textures sing. Check out my tester’s amazing project pages for inspiration.

I used a 100g skein of fingering weight main colour yarn and 2 x 20g minis for the contrast for the blue & coral and 1 x 20g mini for the cream and pink. If you want to have the motifs down the foot and leg in the contrast yarn, you will need 25 to 40 grams of the contrast colour.

Yarn usage for Ladies 64 stitch 7 1/2 shoe size

  • The blue & coral sample used MC 48g & CC 24g
  • The yellow & pink sample used MC 54g & CC 14g

Huge thanks to my test knitters for going on this very different journey with me. Heather J, Rochelle, Leanne, Adrienne, Mara, Kathryn, Heather E, Josee, Lexanne, Sophie and Jess were invaluable for their feedback and beautiful socks.
