Stoclet
A two-side lace stitch pattern combined with a lovely fringe-like finish creates a sophisticated shawl, the patterning reminiscent of Art Deco motifs. This is a straightforward version of the Shallow Crescent Shape. The lace is structured and very open, almost more hole than fabric, and really should be worked with a solid color. The needles are smaller than you might expect for a lace project, but this ensures the structure of the motifs.
I’ve used a stockinette tab here for a smooth side edge, which is continued throughout the shawl. The side edge doesn’t have as much stretch as a garter edge, but this provides a tidy benefit, holding the top edge firm, creating a nice collar-like effect when worn, and keeping the extra-stretchy lace from sagging out of shape.
This is a challenging but very satisfying project. Make sure your needles have good sharp points, and keep lots of stitch markers on hand.
Pattern is entirely adjustable - will work well with other yarns, at other gauges, and it can accommodate different yardages.
