Like many designers, the four of us work alone and far from our peers, but we get to be a part of this wonderful social circle that we call Ravelry.
Thanks to that connection (and being fans of each other’s work) we began pinging each other about design ideas or questions that periodically came up. Soon the pings became snippets of conversation, and over time, those snippets have grown into a constant 4-way thread of text. It has become our virtual coffee shop, where we can touch base, share our thoughts and have a bit of company each day.
Recently, one of these conversations led to sharing opinions about the perfect pom pom hat. This fun collection is the result of that conversation; pom hats translated by each of the four of us with our own design perspective and personality in mind. Different yarns, different stitch patterns, different shapes; each hat in this collection represents where we come from, translates what cozy means to us and embodies what we’d be wearing as we tramp through the snow to visit the other three if we had a real, live shop with a fireplace and steamy mugs to drink from…

Stollen (named for one of my most favorite holiday deserts) is a cozy, quick knit that can be worn as a beanie, or as a comfy slouch hat. Either option keeps it casual, but the addition of a faux fur pom gives it a sly pop of sophistication!
The textured ribbing throughout is fun, easy to memorize and pops right off of the fabric.
The pattern is written in one size with regard to circumference. The cast on and the gauge make the hat incredibly stretchy allowing it to fit a wide range of sizes (see photos- the same hat fits not only my 4 year old, but also my husband!)
The notes include a variation for the brim as well as notes for adding length to adjust for size.
All texture is knit and purl. There are both charts and written directions. Crown shaping is charted only.
