I was startled when two of my young friends on Ravelry were diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2010, I participated in my first Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk in their honor, and released my first fundraising pattern, Pink Lemonade. In 2012, I will be walking again. Every dollar spent on Stomp Out Cancer will be donated, funding research, patient services, and prevention efforts.

Pattern Information:

This pattern uses unconventional shaping. Summaries are given at the beginning of each new section as a guide to what you’ll be doing. Achieving the correct row gauge is important; but unlike with most patterns, stitch gauge need not be exact.

The socks are knit from the toe up. You may use dpns, 2 circulars, or magic loop. Written instructions are provided along with the chart to help you through the patterned heel flap, which is the most challenging section.

Although the pattern is only written for one size, the finished socks are stretchy and will fit a wide range of feet. The sample socks measured about 5 ½ inches unstretched and are shown on feet with a circumference of 8 inches. Adjusting for different foot lengths and/or leg heights is easy and instructions are provided.

Required Skills:

Basic increases and decreases
Knitting in the round (dpns, 2 circulars, or magic loop)
Short rows with wrap and turn
Cabling without a needle is recommended for fastest results
An understanding of charts is recommended, but not required
