The legendary winged serpent of Mexico and Central America inspires the Quezalcoatl shawl pattern. A cabled panel down the center of the shawl represents the beast’s serpentine body, while feathery wings extend out from scaled shoulders on each side of the shawl. The border pattern of flight feather tips is worked across the entire bottom edge of the shawl. The resultant shape is reminiscent of Faroese shawls, and sits nicely over the shoulders.

Worked from the top down, with triangular wings worked on either side of a central cabled panel. Skill in chart reading is required as the two charts must be used simultaneously. Use of the central panel creates a Faroese shape.

The pattern can also be worked as a true triangle by eliminating the central panel completely.

This pattern is currently charted only.
