This eye-catching baby blanket reinterprets log cabin knitting via a modern block inspired by the works of modernist painters Helen Frankenthaler and Josef Albers. Rather than following the traditional “puzzle-piece” approach of a log cabin, Strata starts from a central square and builds outward for the entire course of the blanket, creating bold slabs of garter stitch that incorporate color blocking and stripes. Choose color stories inspired by your favorite landscapes or works of modern art. The baby blanket is written as a single size, but it can be enlarged by working with worsted-weight or chunky yarns.

Construction

Blanket is worked flat in one piece. Work begins with a center segment. A second segment is picked up and knit off of the first, then each successive segment is worked off of two or more previous segments, rotating the blanket clockwise until the entire piece is complete.
