Introduction

The Striata Top is a light, textured knit with an interesting yoke construction, consisting of traveling stripes. It is worked top-down in the round. The neckline shaping is improved through short row-shaping. The top has a split hem which is longer on the backside. This hem can easily be adjusted to a straight one, depending on your preference.

Note: the number of increase lines is different in each size, but the overall visual result is very similar. Check out the projects-section to see the difference between sizes.

Sizes

(XS, S), M, (L, XL), 2XL, (3XL, 4XL), 5XL

The sample top has a positive ease of 2cm/1in around the widest part of the upper body. That means it’s rather fitted.

If you choose a size that’s 2cm/1in bigger than your bust circumference, this means the sizes of the top correspond with a bust circumference of (76.5, 83.5), 92.5, (108.5, 118), 126, (140.5, 150), 158cm / (30.5, 33.25), 36.75, (43.25, 47), 50.25, (56, 59.75), 63in. If you are in between sizes, you can consider a somewhat tighter or looser fit, depending on your preference.

This is the circumference of the finished top:

  • XS: 78.5cm / 30.75in
  • S: 88cm / 34.75in
  • M: 96cm / 37.75in
  • L: 110.5cm / 43.5in
  • XL: 121.5cm / 47.75in
  • 2XL: 128cm / 50.5in
  • 3XL: 141cm / 55.5in
  • 4XL: 152cm / 59.75in
  • 5XL: 160cm / 63in

Note: Size 5XL hasn’t been test knitted. Please contact me if you’re interested in test knitting this size.

Yarn

(2, 2), 3, (3, 3), 4, (4, 5), 5 skeins of fingering weight yarn (100% Superwash Merino Wool); 400m/437.5yds per 100g/3.5oz). The sample uses hand-dyed yarn from Olivia & Oliver Fibres in the colorway Caramel.

This is an indication of the yardage you need. Take note that adjustments in yarn and length will have an impact on the yardage you need:

  • In grams: (178, 195), 219, (259, 297), 342, (383, 400), 413
  • In ounces: (6.28, 6.88), 7.74, (9.14, 10.48), 12.06, (13.51, 14.11); 14.57

Gauge

25 stitches x 37 rounds per 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches in 2/2 broken rib stitch after wet blocking.

Take note that broken rib stitch grows a lot, so make sure to wet block your swatch.

  • 3mm circular needles: 40 and 80cm / 16 and 32in
