Spies, aristocrats, thieves, all of the above - we all have our little secrets. Some of us are content to keep them that way, always in the strictest of confidence. For others, discretion is something that is found in the dictionary. These mitts let you play it both ways: cool, sophisticated black on the outside, while the delicate pink ribbon and contrasting picot welts hint at something more vulnerable and much more interesting.

These mitts are worked in the round on double-pointed needles or circular needles, using a provisional cast-on to form the picot hem. The yarn used has been discontinued, but any 100% wool with which the gauge can be achieved can be substituted. The stretch and memory of wool is what helps give the close fit through the hand, so please be aware that the stitch counts may need to be modified to accomplish the same effect using a yarn which does not have these properties.

One skein of the Elann Peruvian Highland Sport (163 yards/skein) in the main color should be enough to knit all the sizes, but will be cutting it close on the largest size. A small amount (less than half the skein) of the contrasting color is required.

Other notions required: 1 yard of 1/4-inch-wide sheer ribbon, waste yarn, smooth contrasting yarn for lifeline, tapestry or darning needle, stitch holder
