Strings of Love
This lacy baktus is a sweet challenge for experienced knitters. It’s definitely not one of those projects that you knit in the train while chatting with fellow travellers. It’ll keep your head busy as well as your hands, but the result is more than worth the effort.
It’s the perfect accessory for springtime when the weather is unpredictable of for those breezy summer evenings.
To make the pattern show its beauty, use yarn that’s not too crowded with colour changes: monocolour or long colour changes work best, very close shades of the same colour might work too.
This is a shawlette with a story. I designed it for my youngest daughter. The string pattern on the straight edge symbolizes our tender and strong connection in the first years of her life, the more open lacy string in the middle shows how the bond loosens but never breaks as she’s growing up, and the right side row of diamonds and hearts is what I hope our relationship is going to be like when she’s a grown-up and I’m an old lady: precious and loving. On the very right edge a little piece of he first string appears again: of course I hope to be a grandma one day :)
So if you are either a mother or a daughter and appreciate the story of this shawlette, I warmly recommend it to you or your beloved one.
