Pattern Notes
This pattern is designed for my email subscribers and to introduce beginner knitters to color work through a simple garter stitch design. This pattern is available for free to my email subscribers, but thought others might enjoy it as well.

While the pattern was designed for beginners, I also wanted to encourage knitters of all abilities to try something new. So the pattern includes customization instructions to add 2-color braided CO and BO, as well as a slipped chain edge. And for the more adventurous knitter a braided-cable edge.

A pattern overview video is linked in the pattern to walk you how through how you can customize your own dishcloth with the various options.

Video tutorials are also linked in the pattern.

This pattern has been tech edited, and gone through test knitting.

Size Options
This pattern was written for sizes 9x9, 11x11 and 12x15. If you do add the braided-cable edge it will add approximately 1/2-1 inch of fabric width wise. If you desire your fabric to be square simply add additional rows.

Additionally the width added by the braided-cable edge is also dependent on how you knit that edge. I knit it to make it similar to an I-cord, however some test knitters knit it to lay flat. It would be a personal preference for you whether you pull the yarn tighter or let it lay flat.

Without Braided Edge
Approximately 22.25 x 22.25 (27.75 x 27.75, 30 x 38) cm /
9 x 9 (11 x 11, 12 x 15) inches.

With Braided Edge:
Approximately 23.25 x 22.5 (28.75 x 27.75 31 x 38) cm /
9.25 x 9 (11.25 x 11, 12.25 x 15) inches.

You can easily make this pattern wider and longer by simply adding stitches to the CO and knitting to your desired length. The braided-cable edge instructions include an additional 8 stitches which you can add on to any CO number you decide to do.

Gauge Information
Since this is a dishcloth, it is not necessary to get gauge, however if you are a tight knitter or a loose knitter, you may want to do a gauge swatch to see if you need to go up or down in needle size.

The test knitter who knit with a lighter weight yarn held double did use the 4.5 mm knitting needles and reported that they were able to obtain gauge easily.
