Striped Mittens from the Heath
Striped Mittens from the Heath, Traditional Danish Mittens
From the 17th century there was on the heath, in the central part of Jutland, Denmark, a big home industry of knitwear; stockings, mittens, sweaters etc., the sale of the knitted goods was a necessary source of income.
The mittens are worked in two colors for warmth with small geometric patterns, and made with details characteristic for the area, like a two-color cast-on, a two-color rib, and a closure of the hand divided into four.
The mittens are made with a thumb gusset and can be adjusted in length for a perfect fit.
