This is a machine knit version of a two color scheme gradient yarn striped 1 x 1 rib scarf and matching hat.

The scarf is knit on a bulky gauge knitting machine (9mm) with a ribber and color changer. The hat rise and crown are also knit on a bulky gauge knitting machine with a ribber and color changer using the circular (tubular) method with the cuff knit by hand.

Skills needed include: 1 x 1 ribbing cast on, stripes knitted with a color changer, carrying yarn along edge, 1 x 1 rib bind off, circular (tubular) knitting, transferring stitches with a transfer tool, hand knitting 2 x 2 rib and standard (chain) bind off. Video references/links are provided for several of the skills needed.

A discontinued yarn was used (Knit One Crochet Too Paint Box) but any worsted weight yarn with two different gradient color schemes of approximately 400 yards each will work. Depending on the gauge, the final dimensions may be different if the number of needles and rows are not adjusted accordingly.

The scarf was a fun knit, the hat not so much because of all the stitch transfers for the crown. Next time I’ll probably hand knit the hat crown too.

I’m happy to answer any questions via message and would really appreciate pictures and/or feedback on the pattern.
