This hat is worked in rounds with a combination of shell stitches, double, and single crochet. It’s a good way to practice shells and adds an extra touch to a standard beanie.

There are instructions for the shells in the pattern and while I use the Chainless Starting Double Crochet and Adjustable Starting Ring in all my pattern, there are tutorials for both online. You can also substitute a basic starting chain if you prefer.

Approximate finished size is: 8.5’’ from start to edge; 23.5’’ around at bottom. If you want a larger or smaller hat, increase or decrease round 1 by a multiple of 2 stitches and then follow pattern as written. The only difference will be the stitch count per round. With any more than 14 stitches to start, you will also need an additional skein for the last few rows.

Unfortunately the Serenity Garden yarn is no longer available in-store at Joann’s - at least where I live - but any similarly sized yarn should work fine in its place.
